What Is A Wolfdog?

A wolfdog is a domestic dog with more recent wolf ancestry than most. Wolfdog is a slang term with no legal or scientific definition, it's more of a type of dog than a breed. Wolfdogs come in many flavors depending on what dog breeds and how much is mixed with wolf. 

 

A wolf hybrid is a wolfdog that has a full-blooded wolf for one parent - the direct offspring of a wolf. Not all wolfdogs are wolf hybrids and it is EXTREMELY important for canine professionals, law enforcement, and wolfdog owners to know that difference. 

 

Wolfdogs are wired more for family than for obedience. They don't do well with dominance but when accepted for who they are and given reasonable behavior boundaries, they are the most loving and affectionate canine companions on the planet.
